View Full Version : Who has the least luxurious E34?

I like my E34. But I know that mine probably was one of the cheapest models that were made. This is fine by me, but when the local M5 roars by I actually can feel my penis shrinking :D

I'll go first:
Cloth seats
Manual seats
Manual windows
Small OBC
Retrofitted rear headrests
No remote controlled locking
No Aircon
Manual transmission
No check control (not sure if that's a bad thing, judging by this forum)
Diesel engine (Noisy, smelly, slow)
Retrofitted map lights, foglights
And, interestingly NO side repeater (happy about this one)

This said, I've seen an E34 with an analog clock (!) and manual sunroof. So that guy is worse off than me.

Ha ha ha your question made me L.O.L! I love my e34, but the heater only blows hot air to the windscreen nowhere else. Even on maximum temp if I put the face air or 'feet' air on it blows cold air at me!

I've seen those analogue clocks before too!!!!! :p

L.O.L, i'm still chuckling over this one... :D

I guess you won"t get much competition from the States... BMW is a luxury brand only here. We don't get to choose base models and then option them from scratch.
So no manual windows or very small engines.

Goes to show the difference, all the threads about stuff we(Euro) dont have fills pages, doing a stomp test on a Euro car just makes it go faster! Even SE versions here only have electric seats as an option, goes to prove that even Bosch electrics can and do go wrong, just imagine how bad they`d be if Lucas had made BM electrics.

lolling @ my putt-putt m20 :p

It could be worse... you could be driving a 518i with roll up windows.

Are you sure that OBC was in there from the start? Maybe one of the previous owners retrofitted it, becouse as far as i know the OBC was optional, and if you didnt want it you got an analog clock instead, like the one you mentioned.

At least it's not a Trabant.
Just think of all the repair threads you can ignore.

Let's see...
i ditched the A/C
the heater core leaks and stinks the cabin (top of my "to-do" list)
the blower makes a horrendous noise (also on the top of list)
the sunroof window control pad is out and shows wires, etc
i cant see my trip and odemeters
i always have a "check" something warining on the dispay.
the steering wheel leather is glazed and has a stink to it (anyone selling a M-technic wheel?)
manual xmission
loud BB triflow exhaust makes for an unusually louder cabin
the windshield is pitted after 17 years of use
leather is worn and is showing (leatherique this spring)
steering is a little loose and needs adjustment

Niels, I think we're even...

my gf's e36 didn't have check control i couldn't believe it especially because its a coupe, after having it in my former e28 and my e34 you get used to it and I think its useful.

i like the check control..was following a fairly new ford falcon home the other night, and evry body brake as we approached traffic lights,i thought at first the ford wasnt going to stop but he did,no brake lights...wold happen for only one day in an e 34 me thinks...In NZ bmw is a very very expensive car,my 535 has just about every option as std.

soon to be fixed back seats
no airconditioning
very minimal audio
fuel pump louder than my exhaust
no rear seats
have to top off 3 containers - fuel, methanol, nitrous
no driving in the winter
no traction
incredible stiff clutch pedal

So when are you bringing it to Englishtown? I'd like to see it's 1/4 mile time...

put some big Hoosier tires on it and smoke em...

No fair, take that back. It may not be considered luxurious, but you'll get no sympathy here for having a stick ;)

Likely your only hope of catching rubber in any gear :D

oh yeah, no traction control either.

But I think you guys misunderstand me. "Un"luxurious doesn't mean broken. It means built that way. My car is in perfect working order. It just isn't pimped out at all. The most serious pimping my car has been subject to is when the style 5 rims are on.

So it appears that I have the least luxurious E34.

I dont have central locking or anthing retro fitted. But I have a rear screen shade and arm rests. Am I a poor person too?

Go rent a Ford Focus and drive it on the highway. You'll feel better back at the wheel of your 5.

I don't have traction control strangely enough... 535i+rain+notraction = scary. Was traction control an optional extra?

UK models have red lever to left of driver's seat. drops sand on road in front of rear wheels. Doesnt yours have one?
