Is it possible to look for one with maybe a tad less mileage?

hold out man... you'll find a better one.
that kind of mileage is nearly double what could be average.... besides, who can tell at that age, just acquiring the car, what could go wrong. now IF it's got a stack of mx records... good thing.

not that it's inheriently bad, but a lot of miles.

ok, else to answer your questions;
Considering the miles, I'd be anal about this:
- trans prog history of faults
- maybe fuel pump changed out
- spark plug coil packs replaced
- compression (did it overtemp, head crack, etc...?)
- how does it shift?
- then tons of misc stuff like to the seats work?
- all windows, sunroof, etc...
- crank position sensor?
- 55mph shimmey?

that year doesn't have a timing belt (think '92 on didn't)... but "it runs great" is what anyone wanting to sell a car will say. if it doesn't have record of a water pump plan on it needing one.

Im going to look at a 525i on thursday. Id like to get some tips on what I should look out for.

Here is what I know about the car.

1993 525i
white/beige leather
2.5L (m50?)
auto trans
270,000 miles
was last inspected roughly 2 years ago

current owner hasn't replaced the timing belt, radiator or water pump but says the car runs great.

Only known issues are, missing foglight lense, a license plate light, and the passenger side window will only work "sometimes"..oh and it has no radio.

So what should I be looking for specifically?
