okay so I have decided that I want to stay with BMW but after a lot of research I have not been able to locate any reliable sources on the BMW M3.

I'm interested in the 2003 model as i have read that the 2001-2002 have a rod issue and you cant rev it high as you might damage the engine. Anyways...I can't really afford the ones with 10-20 thousand miles but the M3 that are in the 60-80 thousands miles seem to be more doable.

My question is...does any one have one or know someone that has a 2003 or newer with that many miles?

how long is that engine suppose to last compared to a 330ci?

are there many problems with that car or is it considered a reliable car?

what are the pros and cons in purchasing the 2003?

can i do the maintenance myself or is it all electrical that I have to take it to a dealer for a 150 dollar oil change?

Those engines should have been replaced under warranty. I believe the MZ4 had it's red-line lowered because of such issues. Valves have to be adjusted. http://m3forum.net/m3forum/index.php?
