Cheap solution to replace the original blower motor with a FASCO 12 V motor for abt. 20 $ and re-use the fan cages:

Anybody have a link to these motors? Mine just died this weekend and I would rather replace with a new motor than dig one out of an old car. I searched Google for the Fasco motor discussed in the thread but had no luck. Anyone have any other sources for these motors?

I also search the site mentioned in the post above mine but can't seem to find a match with any of the numbers shown on the Bimmerboard thread:

A timely post Shogun. My '89's blower is screaming like a banshee.
My local parts man entered the 35486 and came up with a blower motor and also a reference to a # 35666. Both are on order.
I'd love to know who carries these for $20, I'm qouted $54 and $72 for the 35666. Either way it beats the **** out of $200 for the motor and cages.
The parts are due in the end of next week.
You guys will be the first to know how this works out.

Ross, did you go to a Napa or something along those lines? I guess I'm going to have to run down to my local parts guy and see if he can find anything, as I'm having zero luck finding a Fasco 35486 or 35666 online.

I ordered from one of the few remaining independant auto parts stores.
The 35486 # was in their system under the Four Seasons, Standard and Parts Master brands but without any info other than it was a blower motor. The counter man ordered it and another one that was cross referrenced, ought to be in tomorrow.
Unfortunately I won't be able to work on this until the weekend.

I've ordered this motor and encountered the following problems trying to use it.

1. It has wire leads instead of the terminals, no problem I cut the leads and put on the appropriate terminals, instantly eliminating any chance of returning this.
2. The shafts are longer, either cut them or prepare to struggle mightily to get the blower in the housing.
3. The shafts are also a hair smaller than the original so the cages are loose, a set screw or glue ought to be enough to hold 'em.
4. Finally after addressing the three other issues I discover that this motor won't seat properly in the spot where the old Behr motor was. This motor is slightly differently shaped and doesn't fit firmly in the "pocket" where it is supposd to. If the motor isn't firmly and properly positioned the cages will rub. I cannot get it to sit squarely in the housing.
This little experiment cost me ~$60 and a couple hours farting around with it.
If someone else has successfully used this motor on an E34/32 I'd love to know how.
I don't recommend this as a replacement for E34/E32s.
Should you still be so inclined I will have the motor for sale.

Ross, thanks for the followup! I almost ordered one but decided to buy a used bimmer blower motor instead. Which number motor did you end up trying?

No prob. Send your pitty donations to: The Ross is a cheap screw who occasionally outsmarts himself fund.
The motor I bought is Parts Master brand # 35486 which is the "house" brand of parts store in the Bumper to Bumper buying group. Four seasons uses the same #, everco and Standards # for it is M4810.
I'm curious to know it's intended application so I can try to peddle it to the right market.

Where are you guys finding these motors? I have contacted Fasco here in the USA and these numbers are no longer listed and the motor is discontinued

Just got the following feedback:

Shogun, sorry that I haven't emailed you back. I went to Autozone and checked into the Siemens blower motor. Turns out that the blower motor they have is only for the heater-only vehicles. Just a thought, how does BMW sell a premium luxury car with no A/C?

Edit: in answer to that message somebody posted now:

Wait. The blower motor I bought from Autozone 1.5 years ago is still running in my 88 750. Yes I have AC and dual zone temperature control. I remember I needed to adjust the cage position relative to the motor shaft but other than that a straight replacement. BTW my old blower motor still runs fine, no noise. I just thought it was time to get a new one. FWIW and may be for the same reason the Autozone one is not any quieter.

So you are saying just go to Autozone and ask for a replacement blower motor for my 89 535i. It can't be that easy.

I checked also in Germany only, the Bosch motor only costs net 105 EURO plus 19% tax.
Then I earched with that Bosch number and found carbon brushes only for Bosch blower motors.

Translated:
carbon brushes for blower motors A/C Bosch KFZ080
dimensions 3.8x5.7x20mm cable for 12V car electric motors.

Price 7.95 EURO, so roughly 10 $.
Pls recheck if you can get those in USA is specialized carbon brushes shops like these, and check the size of the brushes on the motor before you buy, I am not 100 % sure about size.

Funny thing is, if I for example check for an E34 535 from 1992, that only shows the complete blower motor at rockauto. Anything different my model?
Cannot imagine.

Same here shogun.Rock auto only showed the assembly when I looked but for E34.
The Bosch # ending 032 is definately correct, that was the # on a full assembly I had a look at. The original motor # was 0 130 111 020, they look identical other than the new(032) one has a breaker built in which is the blue piece asked about in another thread.

I just called up my local Napa Auto parts store. 3234 Cass Rd, Traverse City, MI - (231) 947-3830

I had them cross reference the number 35486.

$31.xx shipped overnight to the store.
