I am converting my 1993 e34 540 to manual. How do I trick the brain to think it is in neutral?

I know it is something about the wires that was connected to the automatic handle, but which? What colors?

take the bulb out of the cluster behind the gear indicator so you don't have to look at it saying N forever, and to kill the "trans program" message look at the wiring diagram for the wire that goes from the tranny computer to the check control module and ground it, you are looking to ground the ccm's end of the wire as the tranny computer doesn't matter at this point but you can just tap into it and ground it anywhere

on my 525 I took the trans computer out completely, and then eliminated the trans program in the check control by grounding the wire at the selector. after 15 seconds the gear selector illumination turns off by itself.

The chips for MANUAL and AUTO are also quite different in the M60's, you could install a MANUAL chip.
