Hi & hello, i have recently bought a 535i & it has got a horrible rattle underneath, & british roads are not that smooth so it is really annoying, any tips on what to look at would be apreciated. Thanks TERRY

wow... can you be a slight bit more descriptive as to the sound? could it be the window or just that its louder when its open?

sorry, it is from underneath the car, and definatly not the window or body trims, also a bad different rattle when i turn the engine off, but not if i press down the clutch

so is it a mechanical noise? i.e. suspension? or an engine noise?

The front end suspension on these is often a weak point (in the UK at least) most every E34 I've had I have had to change something making a knocking noise on the front suspension. They knock and bang as you go over bumps in the road.

Take it to a BMW specialist and see what they think - they know these cars very well - better than main dealers now. You don't have to get to work done there - bit cheeky I know, but if you are trying to save money, get them to diagnose it and say you can't afford it yet! I usually get them to do work like suspension anyway because it's too much hassle on your own.

Matt.
