Were there any '95 540 6-Speeds w/ LSD's?

If so, was it an option that should be listed in the car's listing of codes (the 3-digit codes) ?

I pulled the diff from my '95 540 - the tag is dirty and hard to read but appears to say "2.93" - I can't tell if there's an "S" before the "2.93." Also, the diff's casing has what appears to be an "S" inside a box that was sprayed on in yellow with a stencil.

Finally, when you grab one output flange and turn it, the other output flange turns the same direction - so it appears to be an LSD, but I thought they didn't come with LSD's --- only ASC+T...?

I know it was an option on the M-Sport, as was the ASC+T. Some cars had both LSD and ASC+T.

I'd not be surprised if the 540/6 had the LSD as an option as well.

PC, is was an option. Base 540i/6 did not have LSD, just ASC+T.

In most markets you could chose between LSD and ASC+T or get one without both, but you can't get BOTH ASC+T and LSD from factory, the older ASC system you could combine.

I have LSD in two of my 540i/6, ASC+T in the rest, ASC+T costed double what LSD costed, 990DEM VS 2150DEM or something like that.

I have no ASC+T, and it certainly feels like LSD when coming out of a corner... Never looked for the diff tag tho.

Good info!

Will the LSD be listed among all the other options, like "694 PREPARATION FOR CD CHANGER", "704 M SPORT SUSPENSION", etc?

I don't see Limited Slip there --- and I don't see traction control either. But my diff appears to be an LSD - so maybe it was added after the fact.

Ltd Slip option 209 doesn't appear on any of the order decks or price lists for the 540i/6 in the U.S.A.
ASC was the only option. I never ordered any without it.

What are you saying? That there were no US 540's factory-equipped with LSD's? Or that the LSD's were just not listed on the option readouts?

Pretty straight-forward: Option 209 was not available in the U.S. order deck and it wasn't standard, either. I never saw one with LSD, from the factory, in the U.S., did you? As far as I know, you weren't able to order a LSD on any normal 3 or 5 (non-M) after a few months into model year 1994 once AST became available on those cars.

Did all the ASC+T installs have the disable switch?

Yes that's correct, only 525i M50, 530i M60 and 540i = the US models, was able to get with ASC+T, the old 535i M30 could be had with ASC without T, that one you could combine with LSD, not so with ASC+T (from factory, afterwards you could a friend did on his 1994 540iAT)

Ok - so no factory LSD's on 540/6's in the US.

Either my diff is no LSD then, or it was added after the fact. But... it's a 2.93, for sure. Strange.
