Per this thread... http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=35188

So I COULD troubleshoot and try and find out why that one fog is giving out 9.5v... but sometimes you just say screw it.

I used a relay kit and just hooked up the fogs direct to the battery terminal under the hood.

Battery -> 15a Fuse -> Relay

Relay -> Functioning 12v fog lead
Relay -> each ballast

Cool? Not quite. F/Fog comes on immediately because the 9.5v fog lead is open.

9.5v fog lead -> load equalizer*

Almost there. Now it says F/Fog when I turn on the fog because the relay cuts the functioning side off.

12v fog lead -> load equalizer*

Done. No more warnings. A lot more wiring under the hood, but it works. I'm happy. The hardest part was finding something to attach to the positive battery jumper terminal.

Erm, right then...

Stupid question, but why didn't you get a relay that jumps a ground circuit? That way you'd have the power switched on correctly, and you can have an auxiliary ground spliced into the factory ground for the lights. It's still a horrible Mickey Mouse job, but it ought to work a whole lot better.

Ohhhhhhhhh...

Ok I have no idea what you mean. This is what I've done in a nutshell. Change the what now to who?

Then with ignition on I manually actuated each of the four relays and one of them is the fog relay, you might find that it needs resoldering. So as you say" do a search":p

Thanks. I'll have a look... though strange it's just the one side :|

I would definitely check LKM. My brothers had same symptoms, re-flowed solder, good to go.

Of course there isn't much of urgency now as I've hacked around the issue :) I'll pull the LKM this weekend and check. Soldiering is definitely not my strong suite. Should see what happened to the Wii I tried to mod originally... Though it still worked!
