Anyone know the GM trany's fluid capacity? Not how much is drained when you do a dump and fill. I would like to know how much fluid is in the trany and torque converter if it was a dry fill.

I just had mine serviced with Castrol Dexron VI and my shop used 7 quarts as they also flushed the oil cooler with air. I think the main trany capacity is about 9 quarts. Have no idea about torque converter. BTW, this is the third time I have done this service at about every 30,000 miles. TIA

..and pelican parts has a nice tech writeup on doing this... it's for a 325, but in the article its the same M50 and GM auto tranny...

i got a tupperware/rubbermaid bin in silver, wrote in perm marker on the outside making lines for 1qt, 2qt, etc up to about 8qt... so i'd know exactly how much I drained.... so as to replace same... needs to be done at proper temp, whcih can affect the difference between what comes out and what goes back in again....

Bentley no help it only tells what the refill is. I need totally dry fightes.

BTW, your tech seems good. However, do you have a rack or do you level it on jack stands?
