I bought an early E32 autodim rearview (the one with OFF-MIN-MAX switch at the bottom). I didn't know that the '94 mirrors were P&P with my 9/95 car. Damn.

Well, lots of stripping the mirror's wires (not the sunroof wires).

There is power to the mirror. The backlight on the switch is lit when lights are on.

However, the autodim function does not seem to be operational. Any clue?

Thanks

Judgeing from your post on bf.c about the reverse lights being on constantly, I think either one of two things

Either something is wrong with the reverse selector and the lights are always on (telling the mirror not to dim)

or

you got the reverse lead and ground backwards?

you may need to cover the eye on the front to test, if it sees too much light the mirror will stay off, cover the eye and shine a light at the glass it should go dark

Well, afraid that we're doing a hack-job, I think I'm going to abandon ship on this one.

I think I'm going to do an E38 mirror and do the Pin 6 & wire removal...QSilver7 has been there, done that.

Since mine is a 9/95 it seems like a better idea, as the '94/'95 E34s work with the newer mirrors with the 10-pin harness as opposed to the 3-wire that my mirror has.

Hopefully I can sell this early E32 mirror, I guess it will work on older E34s.

Hehe finally got it though my head. ;94+ E34s are 10pin. :D

Although lowell noted that the '93 E32 is 10-pin.

Here is a '93 E32 mirror that I want. I would check with the seller to make sure it is the correct one.

EDIT: It appears that the '93 mirror is still the 3-wire. So gotta go '94+
