I was reading here that the e30/e28 m-tech1 steering wheel will only work on the pre-92 cars, but on bmwe34.net it states that the splines are the same just longer and an extra spacer is needed. I hate conflicting information from two good sites. :P

That brings me to my next steering wheel question, any pics of the m-tech1 wheel in an e34?

Cluster: My trip and check control reset buttons are in-op, any ideas besides replacing the whole cluster?

Thanks
Herbert.

Well, no magic here, but pull out the cluster, open it and see what you find. I take it all else is fuctionnal on it. Besides changing a capacitor, I've not done much else with mine, so I don't know what the switches that these buttons push look like.

Just be very observant as you open it up, and if you like, post some pictures here. Then we'll have something to help you some more.

It comes to my mind that perhaps as you put it back together again, that they might end up working again. This sounds like a physical problem more than electronic. Just a thought.

I have the same problem with the cluster - the trip computer mileage won't reset - don't know how to fix it though.

Is this the mtech 1 wheel? I know its an mtech leather wheel but not sure if its the mtech 1. If it is it came as standard in my 535i Sport along with the leather mtech gear knob, sorry about the pic, its the only one I have with me but you can still make out the wheel. I know you got the same wheel in some e30s and e28s (well the look the same anyway). This wheel was replaced at around 92 with the newer chunkier 3 spoke mtech jobbie, my car is a 1989.

Well as of 07/1991 production date the splines are of the LARGER variety. The M-Tech I wheel NOT fit.
