Im having to buy a new auxiliary fan motor for my 1990 535i. im going to buy a used one, im assuming a the motor and fan are all connected in one, is this true? or is there a seperate part for the fan and motor

It's all one unit - also includes the low speed resistor, which is the component that fails most often. Be sure the used one you buy turns smoothly wihout any grinding or other unpleasantness. Better still, test it for smooth running before buying.
