View Full Version : anyone interested in a GB for the 540i/6 EWS chip?

There was thread discussing how great this new chip is but it got nuked at BF.C since I'm not a sponsor there and they are big on sponsors, even though at leat 2 of my dealers are sponsors.

I'n thinking of posting details of a group buy here. If anyone read the thread before it was pulled you would have seen some very positive feedback on it.

I'd like to get out some 530 chips soon but this is ready to go now...

900 APPR. VEH.IMMOBILIZAT. ACC. TO AZT/TUEV

There is a black ring around my ignition and my key has a microchip.Though i thought that was just for the remote locking system i guess it could do both. Tell me what i need to order for my rare (Prash) 404 DME you saw in that nuked thread and i'll order it .

Please look at your DME number, it only has EWS-II if it is a 0 261 203 484.

Prash's is EWS-1, not EWS-II. I thought yours was a -404 also, that is EWS-1.

I expect that you don't have EWS-II but you never can be sure as yiur car was made in Dec 94. That is also the month that EWS-II cars were produced. I've seesn BMW do some really weird things when they transistion to new technology. DME's ending in 404 didn't have EWS but it's possible that some did. I've seen oddball DME's and EWS-II transponders in cars without EWS-II.

You should just be able to order it.

I had started updating my site last week to add these new chips, but didn't finish. For now, you can order by selecting the 404 chip, and add 1 744 605 in the comments field as the software #.

What I was meaning is I don't think you have an EWS-II chip in your car, but being in the transistional month it may have one and still have a 404 case on the DME. BMW just seemed to drop in whatever was lying around in that month.

Code 900 is EWS I!! Cars with EWS II dosen't have a equipment code, so yours have EWS I.

Sure, just order from my site and I'll refund $20 within 2 days of receiving your order. That means the chip will be $209. (this deal is for DME 0 261 200 404, which is for cars made up till 11/94)

The chips for later cars with EWS-II will be $279 USD, and available till Sept 22 for $229 USD. This is for the 540i/6 with DME 0 261 203 484

This has not been added to the site, but will be in a few days.

Say, how many HP and LB-FT does the chip help to make over the 282/295 that they make when stock.

Wanted to ask this question 2 months ago, but I just finally got my account activated today. :(

Anyways...

So Mark, I've got a '95 540iA M-Sport (9/95 build). I bought a Dinan chip for it (which I'm not so happy with) and the EWS had to be re-aligned to the Dinan chip.

If/when I get a chip from you, would you need the Dinan chip to read the EWS codes off of? I'm not sure what got changed when the EWS was re-aligned and if any of that effects putting in a different chip.

Next question is do you have a chip available for my car?

(Consequently, a new ignition key will cost me around $200.) I'll be able to pull my DME tomorrow to make sure of the number and the chip I'll need.

EDIT: I pulled my DME today and found that it is a "404". Does this mean that I absolutely do NOT have EWSII? I have an EWSII key fob, but no other keys. Is there something else I can confirm visually - like in the ignition switch?

Still searching the archives. I still want a Mark D chip, nonetheless...

My leather key fob has a silver Texas star on it, but...

Yeah. Same key head. I'm feelin' that BMW stuffed the EWSII chip into my 404 DME without changing to the 484 designation. I've emailed Mark D to see what he can tell me about it, but I haven't opened up my DME yet.

Here's a pic of one of the DME stickers with BMWs hand-written "updates". Can anyone decipher it?

With the updated EPROM numbers (1 744 505), does this mean that they DID change the block to Alusil? Why else was there an EPROM update?

I didn't get much interest in it. Also, a few people that bought the chip had a CEL, even though the chip works well. I want to track that down before shipping any more. I haven't been aon here much since I arrived back from my trip to Vancouver as I've been busy with a contract that requires me to be at the customer's site during the day. I'm working on motion control systems for automobiles. I'll be working on prototypes that may appear in furure MY vehicles.
