View Full Version : "engine oil low" warning...but it looks ok, am i crazy?

twice now this week i got the *bong*..."engine oil low" from the check control panel. i am running synthetic oil in it, and the level looks to be ok. whats the deal? am i crazy or is the car?

i think you have to get a reset tool or go to your dealer and they will reset it for you for a fee.

if i recall, there is something about that low oil pressure figure coming on at low engine speeds, like in traffic, and that it's ok if it then turns off when you resume speed.

I know were running different engines but I found that my M20 oil level switch got gummed up and wasnt reporting the correct level so I flushed it out with petrol and got the float working again...now reports fine.

Also you might want to check the connector on the oil level switch, when its not connected properly it will also bring up the warning

I had this happen last year on one of my 1991 525i's and it happened more and more frequently. Once I replaced the oil level sensor the problem stopped. On my car it was bolted to the bottom of the oil pan.
