i just purchased a set of new bmw rubber mats for e34 - i did let them air out in the sun for 2 days.

however now the car smells of rubbery.

does anyone here has proven techniques for getting rid of the smell?

PS: i used rubber mats as it's more practical in the wet tropics here.

Time...is the best solution. The rubber smell will fade away with time....and its not a long time. Give it a month or so and the smell will fade. I don't suggest covering the smell up with another smell...cause all it will do is create a rubber + (X) aroma.

Excellent choice though...they're so much easier to clean. And the mat locks keep them in place...never have to retrieve them from up under the seat or accelerator/brake pedal:

for sure just time... I've had my bavarian autosport rubber mats for over a year now and I LOVE them. Indeed, about a month for the smell to fade, and then you will never remember that smell again :D

i usually use rubber mats only during wintertime, and the smell is already gone by then....during summer time i can hang them somewhere for the smell to get away, and then i use carpets...i love how they feel soft and comfy when i wear sandals (then i drive bearfooted lol)..... :D
