...always amazes me how much faster and lighter my car noticeably feels when I get below 1/4 tank of gas...

while the M50TU pulls decent, the car's a bit heavy still for it... and the difference from a full 21 gallons to 3 or 4 seemingly gives new life to the car....

Wish I could have it that way all the time...., along w/my cake, and eat it too....

But my 25mpg city/highway (70%) ain't too bad either.... :p

Used my 535i as a pickup truck today, 200 lbs of rock salt in the trunk for the water softener, 1/2 tank of gas, and an extra 225 lb passenger, and the car pulled like nothing changed... I even get ~23 mpg 50/50 hwy/city driving.

:p :D

I know what you mean though, my '95 Nissan 240SX feels a lot more 'peppy' on fumes than it does on a full tank.

Surprised that you would notice a ~3% difference in acceleration.

with my m20 i definately notice when even 1 passenger is in the car, but not really gas.

No kidding, I took a roadtrip with 3 passengers and a some filming gear earlier this year. Car had a lot of trouble accelerating and maintaining highway speeds.

I find my cars handles better with a full tank ,but feels faster on low.

Weight doesn't seem to matter in the 540 :D

Its always quick and it always drinks a lot !

I can feel the difference between a winter morning and a summer morning though, the car seems more responsive with the cooler air.

summer fuel and winter fuel are a diffenent mix with winter fuel being mor in the oxiginated area.


I can feel the difference between a winter morning and a summer morning though, the car seems more responsive with the cooler air.

i know how u feel. my car seems to accelerate better with a half tank.

as a rough guide, losing 100 pounds = losing .1 on the 1/4.

The 535i never struggles but when i'm on my own it feels faster than when i have a few fat mates in the back. :D

I try to keep the fuel between 1/2 and 1/4 tank...

yeah the m20 is weak as **** but ALMOST feels fun on empty with 1 passenger :~(

I love my M20, easy to work on and not to expensive. The forced induction sure helps smooth out the hills.

If a turbo was an option I'd sure as hell spend the money on a different model! :D

well if you say that's what the math should work out to...

...but I'm telling you it's there....noticeable.

Never said it struggles.... just it's more fun to drive when I'm running on vapor...got more pep and zoom.

I never noticed any difference between empty or full. I always shift around 4-5000 rpms, and now I'm starting to clutch in at 2000 to get a better start - at least when I'm in front. No torque at low rpms.

I get the impression the faster I get to my cruising speed, the more efficient it is. I found I get better mileage that way.
