Well, I'm already thinking about how to improve the 530 I just bought,
and I'm wondering everyone's opinion on the Billy Boat/Tri Flo Exhaust (the nice $tainless system). Is there enough of a performance gain to warrant $860.00 for the setup? I guess there's always the durability factor, and maybe it would help more when combined with a chip in the future.

I wouldn't trust Bavauto's triflo thing. For $860, you can find a much nicer exhaust. For a grand you can score an Eisenmann.

Lawl.

B&B is in my opinion the best manufactured and sounding exhaust, period.

Its not Bavauto's "triflo" thing.

It's B&B - they're sort of... very popular...http://www.bbexhaust.com/

In my experience (owned an M5 B&B Exhaust) the Triflo actually sounds good. The Eisenmann is just barely muffled engine noise... which is hard to keep from "sounding good" but personally the Triflo is lightweight, quality, and actually has a nice nice tone.

Here is a clip of my triflo back in the day - mind you the raspy/offensive noise is because i had high flow cats.

I certainly hope it's worth it I just ordered one myself last week. It's being drop shipped from B&B. I think it's worth it. there's no way I'd pay a grand for an eismann. I don't care for the sound, and like Jon said B&B isn't a no name brand they're pretty well known. I can't wait for the thing to show up. Jom that video of yours is what helped make up my mind it sounds ridiculously good. I hope it'll be loud enough.. I like loud cars.
Jon what type of bulbs are you using?

I wish I had a link for that eisenmann video on an e34 m5, sounds really good. I don't know if I'd gamble $860 on something like B&B.

how an exhaust sounds on a different car doesn't really help. The M5 motor sounds quite a bit different than my car

...and I love the sound of it! Gives the car a distinct sound mated with the D'Sylva chip. Downside of the chip is premium gas especially here in Chicago but a small price to absorb.

Hmm, I was told they sold a "close-but-not-quite" knockoff of the B&B. Guess you can't trust all of your sources huh?

I bought the Billy Boat for my 540, and the build quality is superb. It is not obnoxious, and matches the character of the car. At idle it sounds very healthy. I bought it because I needed to replace the exhaust anyway - mine was original, and rotting out around the welds. $860 sounds high because I bought mine for $700.

Over 100,000 miles with 20mpg and $0.20 difference between premium and regular that's $1000 more in gas O_O

100,000 miles is what, 7 - 8 years on average? No big deal.

Try running methanol, nitrous, and premium fuel plus tires.

I don't think so mine is being shipped directly from the B&B factory

Do me a favor and take many pics of installation. I may purchase one knowing this new information. :)

Had one, sold it.

B&B weighs 30lbs to the stock exhausts 62lbs. Nicely made. I found it too loud for my preferences. Not bad on the freeway but tended to wear on you on you around town.

I tend to agree with Jeff on the highway not to bad. But sitting in the driveway It sounds like a big V8 with a big cam loping. It does turn heads when I start up the 535. People do not expect that sound from a BMW.

The B&B website quotes $899 for their system, while I was quoted $860 from Bavauto. From what I can tell by the Bavauto catalog, they are the same system...who knows, maybe with this type of investment I might as well
look under all of the couch cushions and cash in my coffee can of change and spring for the Dinan system...

$700 is much more do-able...where did you happen to find it a such a reasonable price?

is it possible to get just the muffler, or do you have to order a complete system?

I'm guessing the price I paid is long gone. It was some sort of a promotional or sale price. I've had mine about a year now, and the price of stainless has gone up significantly. More than likely, it's costing them more to manufacture them.

If anyone uses Saj3ns setup as an example, realize that is my old M5 exhaust, and so the piping is a little larger and his is custom welded up to stock cats for the V8 - so, he's running an M5 exhaust on a 530i.

Hey, that is all-right! $725.00 seems pretty darned good. Maybe this is the place to buy. Thanks clevertd.
