anti theft aram problem

ok now according to the manual, the ALARM can only be turned on and off via the infra red remote. about 3 times, as i try to unlock my car via the remote, it hasnt worked but when i insert the key into the door and open it, the alarm goes off. how can i turn the alarm off without pressing the infrared remote? will it turn off when i start the ignition? what happens when the battery runs flat in the remote?

take the battery positive off, if it is a factory alarm.
IF not look up the alarm valet sequence... usually is key to ignition on and a certain number of button presses.
