View Full Version : doors clunk on big bump?

Rattles and noise seem so hard to find. My "latest" is a clunk that seems to come from the door area when I hit a really sharp edge bump on the passenger side of the car. I suspect it it could be a loose door. However, nothing seems loose and doors are adjusted. Door panels seem tight etc.

Any thoughts!!! TIA

FYI, the front sway bar lins, rear dogbones, front struts and upper control arms have been rerplaced in the past year or so. Nothing seems loose on the underside.

are you sure it's not the sound of a loose shock bearing?

Not sure at all. Front struts are about 25,000 miles old. Rears have never been replaced at 141,000 plus miles. Thanks for the heads up, may have my indy check.

it's very easy to check yourself, pop the hood, and open the plastic cover of the shock (on the moulding). try to lean on the car and rock it a bit, and feel if the bearing is loose.

well, check these things.

-rim covers, mine are always noisy
-wheel bearings
-bushings and ball joints
-shocks

i honestly don't think doors can clunk like that....unless it was in an accident and was badly repaired?

No known accident. Does not alway clunk. Seems to be the harder hits over hard edge strips or potholes. Will check these items. Thanks

Had the exact same issue a few months ago: it was the shock top mount for me.
