When replacing valve seals, what are the orange tubes that come in the packaging for?

they help you in your boardom as something to throw at the trash can :D they actually go over the valves and your supposed to then install the seals, i always install the seals and then stick the oiled valves in

Thats exactly what I did - I thought they slipped over the valve ends but I wasn't sure.

I just used a socket that fit over the rubber part of hte seal and tapped them down on the guide. Is this ok? Any special super crazy installation procedure?

Also, re-assembly, engine oil or assembly lube?

valve stem where the keeper grooves are the step can be rather sharp and it will slice into the stem seal as you slide it over it. Those tubes keep the seal from getting cut as it passes over the end of the valve stem and keeper grooves.

Awesome bill thanks maybe I'll use them just for security - it'd be annoying to get hung up because of carelessness.

Here are some pics from today

Cleaned and lapped. Obviously exhaust valves with 200k miles are difficult to "de-carbon" but I did a good job - they are all smooth, I didn't want to push my luck and damage a valve cleaning.

i was joking the other day to a buddy that they looked like some sort of pecker suppository, "jam two of these in your dong and call me in the morning"
