would one muffler hanger be enough to support the weight of the beefy 540i exhaust system? I cant get my hand far enough in there to get the other one on.

It won't sit perfect, but it'll stay... for a while, till the extra strain causes the other to fail early. Plus it'll move around a lot more over bumps/dips/whatever, could melt bumper surrounds if it contacts, etc.

Drive it on a pair of black Rhino ramps so you can work on it.

it will start to flex and metal fatigue will set in and you'll end up dumping the exhaust on the road on day.

Raise the muffler up wuth a jack. loop the O ring on the top hanger and assemble the lower hanger to the can after looping the O ring.

remove the bumper, it's easier than I thought. Then you have plenty of room.

Wise wise words.... I couldn't get mine on until the bumper was removed. Then I was pissed when I found out there was a second O-ring. :D

pop the black bumper trim off, use a rag to protect the paint. theres 2 screw type connectors on each side and 2 bolts on the rear section. helps to have a helper but not impossible without at all. I dreaded it but it was off and back on within an hour and I never saw stuff like this before. Once the bumper is off its open season, takes a minute to put the hanger on correctly. I had no prob removing the old one but the new one would not go on...maybe I have man hands or the car is tweaked but there was no way I could pop the damn thing on without more working room.

I had the same though until I realized that given how bad the road are here... the joints will fatigue as they move and I'll end up dragging the exhaust along the ground someday. Now it's proudly hanging on both now.
