I got the bottom end together finally. but I want to put my head on. The head was not taken off at tdc...bad. I don't know how turn the head to make it at tdc for cylinder 1. The nut on the front of that is huge and all I have is a socket that goes till 36mm.. I really don't want to mess this up.. any advice?

Per the Bentley, the cam at tdc (#1 cylinder) will have the dimple on the end of cam at 6 o'clock.

Exactly like martin says and the socket to go on that nut is 42mm from memory. I used a pipe wrench to turn it around into place with the head not on the block of course.

Mine was 36?

maybe it's 36mm. I thought 36mm was the crankshaft nut. I'm probably wrong and its fuggin big.

the 36mm was on the crank. I will look into getting a 42mm. Thanks for the help.:)

I was able to move it. The nipple is at six. Does it look right?

The nipple should be around 7:30 (o'clock?) like in martins picture.

This pic may help...

The red line is the centerline of the head, the green circle is the top bolt of the sprocket. Top bolt (and top tooth closest to the top bolt) should line up with the center line of the head... I think... Haven't fired mine up yet but as far as I can tell that's the correct position. Top bolt is the one at the top when the locator pin is at 7:20 o-clock.

Bentley's says the top and bottom bolts are in line but they are not in line with the center of the cam (not at 0 and 180 degrees exactly, more like 0 and 190 degrees) so it's not 100% consistent with the statement "the bolts should be directly up and down..." or whatever is in Bentley's.
