That's really cool. God love the Germans for making great machinery. I saw a video recently of the new M60 where these guys fired 850 rounds of link out of ONE BARREL in one trigger pull. It took them 1 minute 40 odd seconds!!! I'm going to drop off the planet for all of July with the OZ Army where I will be trained in the F88 Steyr, F89 Minimi (machine gun), grenade, grenade launcher, claymore anti-personel weapon etc etc. I'm a police weapons trainer by trade so I appreciate firepower. I hope he gave you a go.

Dude, come on you're an American.

...not an Islamic Somali militiaman.

The "F89 Minimi" is the same we use here as our S.A.W.(M249), but it jams wayyy too much.
It's horrendously unreliable, and it's soon to be replaced.

What's with your guys' "auscam "utilities anyways, that stuff is awful!

I have never used camouflage that has been more effective than the U.S. Marine Corps new digital

Although I can't say the same for the new U.S. Army issue. (What is the army thinking?) The Marine pattern has more brown, and the desert pattern is also much more effective than any other desert scheme.

Not really into guns, but I do like several as design icons. The Bren gun would look kinda cool as a living room display item. Maybe a Sterling submachine gun would make a small but cool collection.
When I was at school, I did a work placement with the Army at Knightsbridge barracks,London. This included a week in the armoury and lots of time to strip and assemble a version of the Sterling that was kept in reserve, plus the current SA80.

for christs sake... how does jamming every now and then make an open bolt machine gun with likely 20+ years of abuse in AFUS use, used in an environment where sand is probably constantly flying into the open bolt hole, unreliable? none of the guns issued to anybody in the MC, with the exception of those in SF maybe is all that great, as they are all heavily used before they get to their current owner. my chat with somebody from the MC revealed that they will often change barrels on well worn receiver/barrel combos, for rifles that is, without ever thinking about it. that's like me saying that the jam-o-matic auto mp5 that i fired made the entire model line unsuitable for SF use because the one that i shot was made in the 70s, had weld marks all over it, and likely had several hundred thousand rounds go down its barrel in its lifetime. as far as I've heard, they don't even have a model lined up as a possible replacement. perhaps they'll go into the armory and pull out old m60s to replace 'em, that will makes things better. (rolls eyes).

The replacements are just around the corner, if not being substituted by other weapons already.

the sterling is a fun little hunk of pipe, i built a resetable plate rack for wills range and he tossed me his sterling to test the rack, 5" round plates at 15-20 yards squeezing off 2 round bursts knock em all up then knock em back down, good short range room clearer

That MG42 is older than 99% of posters and it will still be working when all the rest have jammed and given up! If your life depended on the weapon (before G1 &G!!) then something from Germany or Russia would always work, maybe not as accurate but dependable, still got my Schmeisser liberated 1971 and it was not new then!Anybody who has used a Dragunov or Saiko(russian designer) is probably still alive.

finally got around to finishing off a tree, topped it to about 25 or so feet a while back, chained it to it's neighbor at the top to keep it from killing the patio and whacked it off about 8 feet up, chained the base and took the rest, laid that bitch right where i wanted it, added a couple shots of the patio project

i am going to build a bbq pit where the cinder block is with a granite slab on the left for prep and a heavy duty burner on the right for whatever, crawfish boiling turkey frying....

Yes, MG-40 series MG's were so ahead of there times, and that 42 especially struck fear into the US GI's whenever it was heard spitting out it's massive amount of fire power.
The US M60 MG is based on the MG 40 series, such as it's stamped steel components, loading mechanism and quick change barrels.
