I did alot of reading thru old posts and I saw plenty of info on synthetics and all that stuff. But it still kept me wondering. My question is, one of my friends purchased a 530 from a forum member, and he said that he only used conventional 20w50 oil in the car. So I was wondering, if i put thinner oil and synthetic is it gonna hurt the car? I know its gonna maybe seep oil, but will it cause any other problems? The car had a leakdown test @70K and compression test @120k due to the Nikasil block and everything is ok (currently 147K), whats the recommended oil in a Nikasil engine? I hate to bombard you guys with these questions, but some of you are the experts. :D Thanks guys.

i have put shell rotella t synthetic 5w-40 in my 540i. car seems to really like it. it stops ticking faster on a morning start and runs smoother. plus its cheap at $16 for a gallon at wal-mart.

Use synthetic by all mean... more power and smoother engine like Markus said
