That is a beaut. The alpina type spoke wheels would make it a bit more classy. But damn.. nice ride. Yep, after I top this 530 off with a new paint job, Mr 750/760il is next on the block.
That's exactly like my mom's minus a carphone.

I wouldn't call it loaded per se... it is glaringly missing the TV/Nav screen that many 7ers (at least here in Australia) have.

i find it's not so much the cars are bad as it's neglect that stacks up (due to cheep bastardness or fear) and then dumping a turd onto a un suspecting buyer, then wala, the car has a bad rep

Lots of once proud 750s now staggering around in pitiful shape.
Third owner and down syndrome.
First (wealthy) owner discards the fancy appliance after the fashion fades
Second (enthusiast) owner provides care until the maint. cost axceeds value
Third (bargain hunter) owner runs it no maintenance at all and then whines that BMWs are unreliable, citing such an expensive car should provide better service. He paid 5 or 10 percent of original retail.
Fouth (me) owner tries in vain to bring it back. After lots of cash and work gives up and sells it for a pittance to a drug dealer who cares about nothing more than the decklid badge.

Too bad somebody got a neglected car that the local Wal-Mart mechanics can't fix for him. Don't blame the builder.
Anyone with an ounce of brains would dump it take their lumps. Apparently he enjoys bitching about it.

" Well, um, my dozen year old car that I bought second hand has had some mechanical failures I'd like BMW to pay for"
I'm thinking the folks at BMWNA have a lot of patience.

actually, he bought the car in 1996, so it was only 7 years old when he started having problems. His webpage lists over 100 repairs that were done on the car from the date the car was purchased new, as he has complete records from the original owner, so I wouldn't call it neglected. 54 repairs prior to purchase does not suggest neglect to me.

I don't see anything to complain about here other than whoever does the alignment can't seem to get it right.
Frequent brake issues maybe, but it sounds like only pads were changed then he complains about noise. Driving style means a lot here too.
A failed water pump at 70k and 7yrs., no mention of prior maintenance to the cooling system. Radiator fails after all the crud is washed out from the pump service, that's no surprise.
A window that spontaneously explodes? Heat perhaps, it happens. More likely someone who knows this jerk.
Repairs don't equal maintenance and I see little evidence of the latter.
So a tune-up was to be $1600 (without wires!) and the owner declines. When did it finally get done? After it quit would be my guess. What stopped him from inquiring about normal expected service prices before buying it?
Just because depreciation allows nearly anyone to own one of these cars doesn't mean they should.
Guys like member Shogun demonstrate everything on these cars can be understood and fixed.

Unless the you are referring to major design flaws I don't agree there is such a thing as a "lemon".
I know someone who had Ford buy back a truck because the stooges at the dealer couldn't fix a clutch properly after numerous tries. Fact is they somehow managed to screw it up over and over. Not that Ford couldn't build a clutch.
Every car has it's faults for sure, the E32 in all it's variations included and none are intended to last forever. But this Alex is such an insufferable whiner.
I see no evidence of maintenance and BMWNA had little record on the car
(because it seldom saw service I'm guessing), it's SEVEN YEARS out of warranty and this clown expects BMW to pony up for servicing it?
The 750s are fabulous cars when right and your worst nightmare when all the neglected little failures begin to add up.
There is nothing inherent in the design of this car to make it a lemon.
The car has every creature comfort known to man so doesn't suffer neglect well. It is expensive to maintain, regular sceduled maintain that is. If one chooses not to it is far more expensive to repair.
I have no sympathy for anyone that buys this sort of car and expects it to be cheap. I know because I've learned the hard way. Alex must be a slow learner.

by "lemon" i refer to certain cars, individual cars, that continually require repair. also known as cars that were built on a friday afternoon. this would seem to be one of them.
Some cars do go forever with almost minimal or no maintenance, like ford pickups with the I6. Some seem to get just past their warranty period and come completely apart, like A8's from the late 90's, or Jaguars before the mid 90's. Not all cars are created equal, and the more complicated the piping, the easier it is to foul up the plumbing.
I don't see how you can make the argument that an older luxury car is going to age well, precisely because of all the complexity inherent in the design. When you say they are fabulous cars "when right", I think that says a lot...In a perfect world in perfect conditions, all cars are equally reliable (well, except Jaguars). In the real world, at this point in time, most high end luxury cars from that era are a nightmare to own.

That my750 site kinda scares me. Guess I'll be looking at the 99 and up vintage... On second thought. They are posting about the whole line. Ouch. Maybe the 760 or M5 would be a better option. Man, you just crushed my dreams.. all my dreams are fallin down.

I understand why he could feel that way about an E32, but not an E38.
Shogun has said many times, if you're going to buy an E32, you'd better be prepared to do a lot of DIY, and if you are it's not very expensive at all!
Also, if you look at the numbers on that site, you'll see they're pretty high, even without labor. Mucho rip-off.
Seems like someone who goes to the dealer to get his old car fixed ebcause he's to lazy to do anything himself, god forbid that he get his hands dirty.
