Howdy, all. :)

Order from BMA came in today, including the following:

1 GRAF BMW035276 11517527799 Water Pump
1 GOETZE BMW057703 11531740437 Gskt,therm Covr
1 WAHLER BMW059067 11531712043 Thermostat
1 MTC/RONAK BMW047263 11531722531 Therm. Housing
1 REINZ BMW011314 11511711484 Water Pump O-ring
1 CRP BMW026092 11531720678 Radiator Hose
upper coolant Hose
1 CRP BMW032095 11531722852 Radiator Hose
lower coolant Hose
1 CRP BMW011421 11531265084 Thermostat O-ring

Let's assume that I've correctly ruled out the fan clutch and wish to replace the water pump (I'm figuring it's shot) as well as the thermostat / housing, upper and lower hoses, and I've just realized the serpentine belt while I'm at it (might as well.)

So I'll get a belt. What else am I missing that I haven't listed here, besides replacement coolant and an environmentally-safe drain pan?

TIA, all, and it was extensive searching on this site that got me this far. Good stuff!

theres a little orange D shaped o-ring for the thermostat housing besides the round black one for the thermostat

to make bleeding easy drill about a 1/16 hole in the thermostat and put it at the 12:00 position, drill it right on the arrow on the thermostat, it should just fill right up

I replaced everything on mine (including valley pan gasket, o-rings, and all heater hoses) in January and still get blue coolant on my garage floor. The only thing it could be is the overflow tank. Will be ordering one soon. If you are replacing the belt, do the tensioner at the same time. Here is the list for the majority of items (had to make another order or two for things I forgot)

For the blue coolant, buy most of your parts from whoever is close and has free shipping with $XX order. Peter at BMA on the west coast, and Rusty at buybimmerparts on the east coast. Should get it under $20 a gal.

Winfred, where does the "D shaped o-ring for the thermostat" go?

it's on m50s it seals up the other hole in the thermostat housing to the head, the 91-92 m50s with the factory alumiunum housing used a gasket that sealed the whole thermostat housing to the head and a o-ring for the thermostat, the aftermarket aluminum housing uses the same two o-rings as the plastic housing, the big black one that usually comes with the thermostat and a orange kinda D shaped one
