On M30 engine, listening with a screwdriver (no stethescope avaliable), what is the best technique for identifying the offending valve?

piece of 1/2 inch copper rigid tubing that I use that works fine and the closer you get the one thats making noise the louder the volume will be through the tube , screwdriver whatever...
Or if you still can't get it that way then you can do it like we adjusted valves on old hydraulic v8 engines with them running...

gotta have quick hands with the rockers whipping up and down on the ohc motor
