so my '90 525i had problems where the gearshift would shake terribly and bad noises came from the transmission area, though it never did it when in first gear going slowly, so i got my car up on ramps and finally looked underneath to see if anything was loose, found this bearing laying on the driveshaft itself, noticed there were scratch marks on the gearshift linkage (lower left behind the driveshaft, as well as on the driveshaft itself), there's also some damage to the underside of the car with a slight puncture hole (the yellow stuff at the top) i'm thinking this could be the problem but i have no idea what it is (looks like a seal rotted away)

*note i took the picture after pushing the bearing back into place

Thats the harmonic balancer for the trans/driveshaft. Take the bolts out of the guibo, remove balancer. Place balancer in garbage, bolt driveshaft back together (shorter bolts may be required).

Looks like your guibo is toast too....

Giubo (note the spelling), pronounced jew-bow, was a rubber-only disk made by a Czech company of that name. That company is now part of Goetze Industries in Germany.

Damn Shogun is smart. Now I know I could never be a good mechanic. And yea, your guibo is torn up a bit. Had to replace mine at 80K miles. Was night and day difference in shifting/stability after it was replaced.
