View Full Version : Left the "U-Pull-It" broken hearted :-(

We just got home from the U-Pull-It salvage yard. My son & I invested close to 2 hours trying to remove the turbo, manifold, and all the related goodies from a complete unmolested 82 e23 745i. I finally gave up on it. Got the turbo off but it was toast. More than a quart of oil poured out of the intercooler. I managed to round off the heads on the waste gate. The waste gate blocks 2 of the nuts on the exhaust manifold. Forgot to bring a hacksaw & there's not enough room to clear the manifold all the way off on the longer head exhaust studs with the waste gate attached so would need an air chissel to butcher the fender well to make room. I finally cut my losses & piled everything back on top of the engine & closed the hood & walked away. I did get the DME, throttle body, & instrument cluster for cheap & managed to snag a ton of parts from an old B-18 Volvo (think 1940-Ford). Should bring a tidy profit on ebay for those so the morning wasn't a total loss. Feels good to be back home & take a shower.

one of these? (http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/information-120.shtml) i've had one in my carport for about 10 years awaiting me to build it into something or sell it off, i didn't wanna see it get squished so i got it going and drove it home not long after i started working at da yard

A bit older, it was a '64 B18 544:

Still debating whether to go back to the yard & finish pulling the e23 turbo parts. It's time for me to build a wagon with a small generator, oxy-acetylene torch, & well equiped toolbox to take to the u-pullit.

i am a project sucker, i am trying to score a old 633 that hit the yard that i will turbo if i get it (i have at least one 745 manifold) i got it up on the lift today and it's 99% rust free and not wrecked, ever! the nose and tail are straight :D couple bumps and a little plastic on the center of the 1/4s :( but fairly easy to fix, eventually i wanna cram a v12 in it and twin remote turbos but i was thinking today about sticking a m30b35 (old turd long intake runner 3.2 has a blown head gasket) in it with a single remote turbo as a proto type for when i find a manual tranny to put behind a v12 for the real deal

Man I love old Volvos!!

There is a B18 that runs in the Targa Tasmania rally every year, and it is Dynamite!! I have a photo of it on 2 wheels thru a corner one year!! It sounds a treat and demoralises quite a few modern, more powerful cars!!

I'd love an Amazon too!!
