Anyone here have a BlackBerry? I'm thinking of switching to the 8830 on Verizon from my Treo 700p.

I turned one down two weeks ago. Having a cell phone which people can reach you anytime is bad enough. I still want freedom, or what little remain of it.

Were you running Good Software on your Treo?
I run a 700w with Good Software, works very well with Exchange...

My company provides the cell phone. It is bad (or good) enough it works eveywhere in the world. I don't want guaranteed email delivery. With the laptop at least i don't have to turn it on or at have the execuse there is no internet connection.

I sympathize... POP3 sucks.
Your company needs to go with Exchange and a Good Server. Good works with about 15 different phones.

i had the blackberry pearl for a month but i didnt like that it need a seperate data plan to access the internet...so i switched to the tmobile dash and love it
At Microsoft, I used an old 7280. At the new place, they gave a Pearl. It's supposedly a 'perk' but it's definitely one I could do without. I agree with the 'I don't want to be reached everywhere' remark.

I'm getting the Sprint PPC-6700, but I think I'm returning it for the Palm 700wx.
How do you like the 700p, Brian?

There comes a point where the user interface becomes too small. A laptop is as small as I will go for computing tasks. My current phone can do all kinds of crap, yet until I found that I can store my contacts list on the web and upload to a new phone, I was using a little black book. Sometimes technology just becomes a hassle.
Oh an I refuse to answer any calls when I'm driving, but thats a different story.
my verizon guy was able to get me the same last four numbers as my home phone.

They are releasing a blackberry this month that will do data and voice simultaneously. I would wait for this new one if I were you. I think it's an updated 8800 series, but I don't know the number yet.

I have an 8700v with a company BES server, connected to our exchange server.
I don't know the 8830 though...

The 8830 is just the thinner version with a pearl thing in the middle instead of a scroll thing on the side. It also does bluetooth 2.0 instead of 1.x. Which means it works better with headsets and doesn't freak out with encryption- like the 8700 does.
