93 535iM here. 100-mile drive on an afternoon warm enough that the AC was on the whole trip. Stopped to get gas half-way, no problem. Stopped just before going home, and when I came out no start.

Key turned fine, sprang back as ususal. Feels just like it has the whole 6 years I've had the car. Plenty of battery power, nothing abnormal about any kind of behavior, just nothing from the starter. No click, no chugging, nothing. So I'm figuring switch or solenoid. I got it bump-started (nice having the 5-speed for that) and made it home. Tried it again just after I turned the car off. No start, nothing.

That was two days ago. I tried again today and the car's fine. Starts right up.

So now what? I can't troubleshoot if it's working, but also don't want to take it anywhere in case the problem returns.

Can heat do this? The car wasn't overheating, but it was pretty toasty under the hood.

This sucks. Any advice?

Do you mean that the stater motor didn't turn?
