How important is it to change timing belt tensioner on a timing belt change? Is it required on every belt change or could it skip once? Timing belt service is NOT for E34 but for an old Maserati and parts are difficult to get.

well...if your in there you probably should. Wouldnt want to have it go and really screw up the engine because of something simple that was over looked.

I get a strange vibration while stopped and in gear (525ia), I've wondered if it could be the tensioner(s)..... thoughts? Thanks. Rob.

wouldn't get too excited about changing the tensioner every other time..

I forgot the mention that the timing belt service was done 16k miles ago. I have the belt change every 15k miles since the car collects dust most of its life.

Yes, it is 1984 Maserati BiTurbo. Please no comments about the crappy reliability issue with these cars... This car still runs great and in MINT condition (only 38k miles). How often do you find an old 1984 car that still runs and in MINT condition. It was in the family for 16 years and just collects dust (purchased used in 1988). Hope it last another 16 years?
