Looks like a great deal. I'm assuming the price is due to the fact that it's a year one e39 and that it's a little high mileage (mostly highway he says though). I'd say if it passes a PPI with a fine tooth comb, especially comp and leakdown then I'd grab it.

that is a very very good price for a canadian car. Also, have the carbon issues with that model year engine been dealt with or mentioned?

171 000 km is not really high mileage given the year - it's a little over 100 000 miles.

See... if I were still single, I would jump on it no issues. Married, I have to answer why I'm spending half the savings on a car... even though it's my savings :(

why trade your sweet E34 for an E39 with 100K on it? and pay $30K?

if he wants to do a straight up trade.. go for it... your car is worth more than his

It's an M5... and e39 M5... :(

Of course I love the e34 as much as the next guy but let's not be silly. An 89 535i with 350,000k is not worth more than an e39 m5 no matter what's been done to it.

Great price on that car though. Have it checked out. Hell if it checks out and your wife won't budge then flip it and make a couple bucks. You'll get to drive it in the mean time.

you guys need to straighten your priorities... unreal.

a 535 and an e39 M5 are not comparable vehicles....they are worlds apart.

We're not talking priorities, we're talking worth/$$$

Money aside, hell...let's take an E34 M5 and dump 30k into it. Now we're talking!

I think anyone who doesn't is just suffering from a case of sour grapes. :)

I was getting really excited until I saw the colour of the seats - are they for real ? Who in their right mind would want seats that colour ?

You guys don't know how lucky you are - in Oz the same car would be selling for about AUD $ 90,000 which is about US $ 72,000.

My 1999 528iT with 130,000 km on it cost almost as much as they are asking for the M5. :(

Because it's an M5! with almost double the HP his car has

Her white and pink Focus ZX3? Heh. She can't drive manual, so the 535i is out of the question... so is the 6spd M5. I know! She can take transit!

Insurance is an extra $130 CAD a month to have all three cars...

You know you're serious when you've checked on the insurance costs...

I did the same with an e34 m5 a few years back. Didn't buy it. I should have. I regret it still.... buy it!!! Life is too short to drive the same car forever.

What - she only has one leg ? ;)

Now is the time to teach her to drive a manual. She'll love you for it. :)

I got myself a country girl, she only drives manuals. Thank god she has been tamed though and is not "bogan-like".

if you can afford the purchase price and the maintenance, then do it.

Thing is in the condo, I can't have three cars. I HAVE to let one go... and I can't bear to see the e34... I mean I still have so many parts for it too... 3 pairs of ceramic brakes, new discs, new sachs clutch, new clusterboard... rebuilt sword, three K&N intakes... two clear signals, three headlight sets... etc...

In actual fact if I lived in a house I would have got it as soon as she said ok. Right now it's the e34 holding me back. I vowed that the only reason I'd change it, is if it's totally, utterly dead beyond repair :|

I'll take a set of brakes and rotors and an air filter... make sure to stop by every now and then and tell us how fast your e39 is!

check out Ebay.de ,prices are very similar to US,seems a fair deal but you obviously have a lot of extras there that are standard here.If you can suffer RHD you will get a better spec and condition,E39`s are cheap due to oversupply of E60`s

he's in canada. importing from the us we pay 15 percent tax and then 6 percent duty on a german built car, so 27 000 Canadian dollars is a very good deal.

Also, we cannot import any european vehicle here until it is 15 years old.
