looks like my tranny is toast. called the tranny shop this morning and they dropped the pan. said they found metal shavings and are going to remove the whole assembly. my friend is interested in buying it and he would like to swap a 6-speed. id love to keep the car but again too many bills to pay and i want to go to school this fall.

i was thinking about telling my friend he can buy it off me now for $5k. and then have the shop swap the 6-speed in and everything else.

Sad to see car with less miles than mine go from wear. Always makes me feel like dropping everything and checking. :X

Sticking to bimmers..... I feel as if I've asked you this before.

5k for a 540 that needs a transmission? It's fair but also on the high side these days...If i'm understanding you correctly.

Geez I hope you really trust this shop and specifically this mechanic to make a decision. I know it's probably a little late, but if it has to go, it's nice that it will be resurrected (as a 6'er) and not another e34 lost to parts.
I just introduced my indie to my car, and he was amused to say the least.
I'll let him work on the wife's truck. I'm going to try this on my own.
