Well I thought I'd start another one of these. My 1993 525i had been making some nasty clunks and a shimmy when applying the brakes that could shake all the paint in a Sherwin Williams store. I had been under my car several times and noticed I could grab my lower control arms and "twist" them fairly easy, the boots on my sway bar links were gone, not to mention I could pull in and out on them and get a familiar clunk sound :)

So long story short I ordered thrust arms with 750il bushings, lower control arms, sway bar links, and tie rods (pressed in a new idler arm bushing a few months ago and did the center drag link about 2 years ago, gave it a good hard yank and it seems nice and tight) and the braking has improved drastically, and I have very little clunking....still something though. I only really notice it when driving down our (DAMNED!) gravel driveway and like in the other post, going over smaller bumps/cracks in the pavement.

I really notice it when "sloshing" the steering wheel slightly back and forth going down the driveway. I did notice when I would grab the linkage that goes INTO the steering box when the car was on jacks and twisted it back and fourth, I would get a similar clunk. I also noticed an odd kind of rubbing/something noise when backing up and cutting clear to the right, haven't been able to check it out yet. Just wondered what you guys thought, thanks.

not much left in there... strut collar loose maybe. the rubbing sound if its constant then maybe your tires rubbing somewhere, if its just when you turn the wheel it could be a bad strut mount.

idonno man ;)

LMAO the "L" and "R" are on the thrust arms for a reason....
