A buddy of mine said he read somewhere that only really fat people buy BMWs (kind of like only certain types of women buy subarus). Sounds like BS to me, but thought this might be a good poll topic to see if it is true.

This question is stupid. When you talking really fat are you implying morbidly obese?

You should rephrase the poll. How many pounds overweight are you?

I'm about 220, but 6'4".

I don't think it's true, at least not around here.

Its true. BMW salesman have a BMI calculator as standard issue. If you're not extremely overweight, you are politely asked to shop elsewhere.

Unfortunately, BMWNA has has trouble enforcing this policy in the used car market.

BMI is such bs, it doesn't take into account if the mass is muscle or fat.

Since Chicago has been declared fatty capitol of the world I feel qualified to comment here. My observation is that the inverse is true, perhaps because of the lack of cupholders.
BTW I'm 180# 5'10", ~15# of which is a safe deposit of beer.

[LEFT]I can't exactly remember the relativity of it to body weight but defining overweight basically depends on your body type. For example you may be of the same height and physique but your weight differs it doesn't basically follow the heavier guy is overweight you have to quantify of their individual body types. There are 3 body types; The Ectomorph, The Mesomorph, The Endomorph. The Ectomorph..Definitive "Hard Gainer", delicate built body, flat chest, fragile, lean, thin, takes longer to gain muscle. The Mesomorph..Athletic hard body, hourglass shaped(female), rectangular shaped(male), excellent posture, gains muscle easily, thick skin. The Endomorph..Soft Body, round physique, weight loss is difficult, underdeveloped muscles. Again I'm not really sure of the relativity of body types to overweight issue if anybody could give better clarifcation. Now for us beemer guys w/c one are we more? Here 6'1" and 208 lbs.

this is my point, BMI doesn't take any variables into account other than height and weight, really.

Percent body fat plays a large role in determining if you are overweight or not.

After seeing that picture I would like to cancel this poll. I had no idea someone would post something so disgusting! UGH. I guess it is hard to foresee all possible outcomes of one's actions.

In the UK, BMW drivers have an undeserved reputation for being inconsiderate and selfish. But they are not alleged to be fat. I'm not sure which is worse:-) But who says I'm not under declaring my weight to cheat the poll? I could be just an inconsiderate, selfish fat bstd! Or just a cerebrotonic endomorph

This is probably as reliable as the time I read (on some usenet group) that "people who drove Volvos were slow". That gem came from some Rhodes Scholar who worked at a gas station somewhere in western PA. "I know, I work at a gas station!". We'll through all research out of the water, we have a winner!

I know of a guy who drives an older 320 ragtop. He's freaking huge, I'm surprised that he can even get into the car. I also have a female friend who drives a Z4 that has a near perfect body.
