So with cleaning up the 3er for spring I decided it was time to change the trans lube. When I 1st got the car I pumped in some Mobil1 ATF and it made little difference, what poured out could have been very fresh too. This time I tried some Redline MTL. After a few weeks I can honestly say it’s smoothed things out a bit. It’s still snik/snik tight with the Z3 shifter and all, but it’s less sticky/notchy (if that makes any sense).
Highly recommended.

...I have had it in my 535 for 4 years now and I love it. Shifter, transaxle and everywhere else and everything is so smooth as you say. No notchy shifts in the cold either and it warms up quicker too.

So even though this stuff is 70w80 (from what interwebs tell me) it's ok as replacement for the ATF fluid in manual trans??

I didn't know it was so thick, but if it's this much of a pleasure to use, maybe I will violate BMW's recommendations and try some Redline MTL when I flush my trans in a few weeks
