Came across this set and curious if anyone knows if it would it into an E34 engine bay and onto the newer M30.
I know the exhaust would not match up, but it would be a great start to a new exhaust.

Cool - pretty cheap too. I believe the bolt pattern on all the M30's are the same so it will bolt up just fine. May have to port match but that's pretty easy if the head is off the engine.

I haven't seen that type before. They aren't from an M6 with the S38/M88 (which is good because the bolt pattern matches the good old M30). The guy has only a handful of sales on Ebay though, so the low cost is offset by somewhat of a risk. Go for it!

most of the time with stock type engines port matching does not help performance but can hurt it because the restricting area prevents reversion.

These look okay, they should/will work on the e34. I may bid on them myself. The seller is about 20mins away from me. You will need a crossover pipe and then a bung welded in for the 02 sensor and then some more pipe to the rear part of the exhaust + your old cat welded onto the new pipes.

That may well be. I would think that indicates the header tubes were too big to begin with though. I've seen websites that indicate matching is good, but it sounds like you've actually cut your teeth on some big american iron back in the day. That could indicate that the stock system was properly designed for optimal flow to begin with, and putting on bigger headers and port matching made it run worse as you stepped off the power curve. There is a website that allows you to estimate the effect certain size exhaust systems will have on certain engines: headerdesign.com. I haven't worked up an M30 setup but it looks like it would apply. As the the validity of the underlying physics... well it is the web so it must be right...
