I was curious about this as well.
In US, what year did the sidemarker lamps appear?
Neither of my cars have them but I think the '94 had the front fenders replaced. I know that nearly all non-US production models came with the side repeaters as standard equipment. Was it an option in US?

Sidemarkers were a year by year thing and were not an option in the US. Some early cars have them, and most 1994 and later cars have them as well, but in between there are some that have em and some that don't.

The smoked side blinkers are not OEM as far as I know, though Hella did make clear OEM ones. If you don't have them, I would not recommend drilling holes in your fenders for sidemarkers personally...

Easy to dremel a nice hole in your fender and fix these. Relatively cheap from BMA and a fun mod. No issues as long as you take your time and treat the massacred surface with hearty amouts of rust protection.

I'm assuming you mean the ones that go in the front wings?
They were standard fit in UK/Euro markets..

sidemarkers are in the rub strips, and they work as parking lights only. The markers in the fenders are repeaters and work only as blinkers. You can get the smoked/clear repeaters from Bav Auto and clear side markers from Pro Car Parts, but the outer edges of the sidemarkers are plasticized chrome or white and will have to be repainted flat black to look like mine here

In the U.S., the sidemarkers (which ARE the fender blinkers) were an uncommon option in '94 and standard on '95. I love mine, but am getting jealous of Dave M.'s setup. :)

It's a safety feature, can't hurt to have an extra blinker. The trim lights on that Touring can be eliminated with Euro trim and that's what I would do.

Why don't you just modify your existing fenders so they can use the side marker?

i need new fenders to begin with, the driver side is bubling up quite nastily, and the passenger has a nice hole in the lower part

I have a 95 E34 and was wondering how i could smoke or buy black sidemarkers. The ones that if they were stock are yellow in the front and red in the back.

nope, not at all. seen a few 95s or owner added cars with them and am still torn as to whether I like em or not... the only one that I like hands down are the ones where they have been added into the trim. that is jsut sweet.

Here are clear ones: http://cgi.ebay.ca/BMW-E32-E34-5-7-SERIES-CLEAR-BUMPER-SIDE-MARKER-LIGHTS_W0QQitemZ120181748328QQihZ002QQcategoryZ337 15QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l124 7QQcmdZViewItem

Check back on ebay, sometimes they have the smoked ones.
