specifically where i can find CELIS like fibre optic material, I have found this at 3m (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/LightingProducts/LightManagementSolutions/ProductInformation/LightFiber) but haven't really found any suitably small LED illuminators.

I was thinking of fiddling around and trying to make an e39 series 2-esque tail light for the e34. I love those CELIS tail lights (http://www.jimmy540i.com/tail.jpg)!

Actually found out more, there is also this stuff called Luxaura (http://www.luxaura.com/) which is an acrlyic rod that functions the same and are heat formable. they are also relatively cheap too. Extreme LED has them (http://extremeled.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=2)as well as "light engines" which look like just 3 leds in a plastic cap so i might just make one myself.
as well there is Lumenyte (http://www.lumenyte.com/) which sell fibre optic "linear emitting fibres" that run off led engines.

The only problem is that the previous generation of jettas/passats had those - ruined it for me, but they do look good on an E39 if you know it's an E39... lol...

In all honesty, if I wanted the E34 to look like a E39, I would have bought one. Not my cup of tea really. But it does look like a E39 from the back.
