I got one of those too! Mini-champs right? I agree with you, the detail is amazing. I put this model right next to me on my desk so I can always see it.:)

Yep. Minichamps is the manufacturer. There was one selling on eBay (second hand) in Australia about 6 months ago, where I am from, but it went to about $140 and since I left the auction to the last minute I didn't have time to put in a bigger maximum bid, and I had been kicking myself ever since, thinking that there is no way I can get a Minichamps model anymore. Asking around heaps of places all over Melbourne and even took my search interstate beared no fruit. Then all of the sudden this guy from Singapore had 6 available, all Buy It Nows, so I bought one :D

Never realized how detailed they were.

Neither did I -- I had heard about Minichamps and they do have a reputation, but this level of detail is ridiculous!

AFAIK they don't, it seems Minichamps only made black 535i E34s, there might have been also an M5 but they would be rarer than hens' teeth, even more so than the already rare 535i that I received.

The guy still has 4 available, I'm not sure about forum policy with pasting eBay links, and definitely don't want any members fighting over these, so if you're interested I can priv msg you the link (or if the mods don't care I'll just paste in here).

How well is it constructed?? Could you pull it to bits, and respray it Alpinweiss, and maybe re-colour the interior??

I'd love a 'mini-me' of my E34!!

I can get a Boston Green one for about $150 AUD, but its a big gamble to strip and rebuild the thing!!

I guess you could pull it to bits (although I never would, it's just too nice!), there are screws at the bottom that you could undo and go on from there. There are a lot of intricate plastic bits and pieces that are delicate too, so I guess you would really need to be careful and take your time pulling it apart and putting it back together again.

What's it, 1/16 ? Gosh, right down to the last details. Are you sure it's not a pshop of your own car ? ;)

It is 1/18 size -- about 10 inches (25cm) long and 4 inches (10cm) wide. To this day I am still astonished to the level of detail -- there's even an OBC in the dash, and the cruise control stalk (labeled!)

AFAIK, they only come in black, and only in 535i spec.

I bought the 1/18 scale art car version by a Japanese artist Matazo Kayama. Great model. There is also a Oxford Green version available. Have not found it at a price I want to pay.

Have you got a link to this on the web somewhere? (The Oxford green one)

I saw one on e-bay for around $90. However, I think they are easily available from several scale model stores in the UK. I goggled and found several. Just not anyone in the US. However, Mini Bimmers may be able to get them. Suspect there are others as well
