My 92 525ia (157k miles) auto transmission starts to slip when I push it hard (>4000rpm). :( I can hear some gear slipping noise. My indy changed the trans fluid but problem still exist. I think I might need to rebuild the trans soon. How much should I expect for a trans rebuild? I am in So. Cal.

Also, should use an indy or transmission shop for this kind of job?

My rebuild cost about $2300 in Delaware about a year ago and I used an indie specializing in BMW. I had very bad slipping in reverse and now it works like a charm

Phoenix transmissions was selling a reman unit for around $1100 on ebay last I checked. I bought a rebuilt unit off of ebay from an individual for $600 last year. It's been working great behind the S52 engine I installed at the same time.

You sure you don't want to swap in a manual?

I would love to. But my gfriend occasionally drive my car and she only drives auto. Where can I find a manual trans? ebay? If it's not that expensive, I might ignore her and go with manual. :D The M50 will definitely more fun with a manual.

Call my indy. They ask for US$3600 parts (from dealer) plus $650 labor. that costs more than I paid for my car last year. Geez!
