looks like a plastic impellor but i cant really tell...if it is...you lost

i dont think the plastic impelller affects the M60s like the M50s. even the OEM BMW one is a plastic impeller.

Looks just like the one I bought over Christmas at the $tealer for $140. The impeller is aluminum or something as it has a different look and feel than the rest of the pump.

I think you got a good deal.

werd. i was lucky i got on the damn auction with 2 miuntes left. was only going for $16 before i bid. they retail for over $100.


now all i need is the intake gaskets, PCV plate, Serpetine belt, front profile gasket and the 4 crossover tube seals and im ready to re-seal my intake. also put a new expansion tank on too. anything else i should replace too while ill have everything apart? i was thinking maybe the belt tensioner?

also did anyone who did the valve cover gaskets torque them to spec? they are 89 inch lbs if i recall correctly. did anyone use some sort of rtv on the surfaces too?

graf's are pretty good pumps, the metal impellers are anodized black and look like plastic

Laso is of same design 5 or 6 years ago. I can't recall if Graf had this design back then...

Good buy on that water pump!

Replace the Torx bolts at the front and back of the intake with hex bolts. You will likely strip the Torx heads & have to vise-grip them out. I think there are 13 of them.

According to the PDF file I have from e38.org on doing the valve cover gaskets, you are supposed to apply 6 beads of Sensor Safe RTV to each head. Two inch long beads where the timing cover meets the head, and four inch long beads at the "half moon" transitions at the rear of the head. The guy who did this job used Permatex Ultra Grey 599BR.

I'm doing mine next weekend. If you get to yours before that, please post your results and experience with doing this job.

i usually see leaks when people gorilla snot rubber gaskets, now if theres a transition that's a little uneven like at the timing covers a little dab won't hurt usually about the size of a pea, the most common cause of leaking dohc bmw valve covers leaking after they have been changed is not changing the little rubber grommits that are around each bolt, the way the bolts are designed you are bottoming the bolt out on the stud and the rubber is what's applying pressure to the cover, old squashed grommits are not pressing as hard as they need to be on the new gasket (11 12 1 437 395, Valve Cover Seal Washer, about a buck a piece, same on m50/52/60/62 and a few others). 6x1.0 thread on the plenum cover bolts, can't remember how long should be about a inch, don't forget the seal on the front of the intake sealing the throttle body to the intake as that's usually the one that's leaking and most people don't change it

Hey Markus - Thanks for the heads up on this guy...

I checked out his other auctions and he was selling his Bentley manual as well. I snagged that for $42!
