View Full Version : Cut CEL wire, Pin 8 on Motronic 3.1, anything gonna blow up?

I am tired of my CEL looking at me. I want to wire it up as a shift light. Pin 8 is the wire for the CEL in the instrument cluster, and is an "output" ground. So, nothing whacky should happen if I cut that wire from the DME, right? The factory DME is chilling there providing power for relays right now.

Might I have to actually ground the wire to keep the light out? Or do you think it works when the ground is lifted?

if its output ground the light lites up when grounded.

For some reason I envision a couple of guys staring at a bomb counting down to zero.

As for your question, just cut it. I don't think it would be any different than if the bulb burned out.

just to be safe i would ground it with a resistor.

Am I the only one who sees humor in using the "check engine" as a shift indicator?

You should see my engine codes

Fuel pump
ignition coil fault
injector fault
tachometer fault
intake sensor fault
tps fault...

lol, means you need to do something as soon as you see that light.

switching transistor to ground the light to turn it on.
