AC and heater control simultaneous failure?

AC and heater control simultaneous failure? During 600 mi run to FL last week ac started out weak and then quit. Heater control failed on very warm but not full heat. Temp control turned to full increases heat.

AC will start and run about 15 to 30 seconds before cycling off.

Any significance to apparent simultaneous failure of both functions, heat and ac, controlled by same temp switch?

Guess what? Dumbass!

Had removed the plate/cover on firewall for access to the heater blower, but forgot to replace it. Trip to Tampa in March exposed.

AC, after 18 years, needed only one lb. of R12 to blow cold again.
