After being logged on to the web for 10 or 15 minutes, a high data tranfer rate is observed, at times that should be quiet. This is slowing down this board so bad that it's almost unusable. The data tranfer will occur even with the browser, email and all other applications closed.

My ISP suggested running McAfee Stinger.exe and Spybotsd.de to rid the computer of both viruses and spyware. About 50 pieces of spyware removed and the Bagle virus was found and removed. Both programs now say my computer is clean.

But the problem continues.

Running Windows ME on emachines 733i (2001) and Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

Windows is optioned not to allow automatic updates from Microsoft.

I'm searching for any ideas that may help.

Problem first noticed about a week ago.

The peecee went belly up last week after an updated stinger run. The bios doesn't even recognize the primary master hard drive.

Fudge, glad I bought the oldest legitimate son a peecee for his study.
