pretty good motors, & lots of room the work on them.

theyre all easy to work on. just depends on how flexible you are. it isnt like most american and japanese cars where everything is seemingly crammed under the hood.

I'm partial to the M30. $3 oil filter,no vanos, no timing belt, nothing tricky also not likely to crack a head if overheated. Well sorted engine that requires little. Good enough torque to be fun even with a slushbox.

I keep reading about VANOS in context like it's a troublesome complication... I like it, but haven't found reason not to... what are the issues w/VANOS? Oil filter costs a few bucks more on the M50, but no valve adjustments either... just wondering about the VANOS..... don't want to open the "what's a better motor" can-o'worms...

Variable valve timing. I forget what the acronym stands for.

you get a nice power curve the the advance of the intake.

The bad things with VANOS is the solinoid can fail killing the oil pressure drive for the VANOS unit, as they wear they get nosiy...growl, rattle etc.

I'll take the liter of displacement over the vanos any day.

M30s are great...no rubber band, VANOS, or mutli coil packs.

Just need to like adjusting valves
