I've got a 92 525i. There is no 'SE' on the boot lid and none of the documents tell me. If SE means special equipment, its got:
Full leather interior
Electric: seats / headrests in front, mirrors, sunroof
Trip computer
Air con

So how do I know if its an SE or not? Just curious.

SE is aircon, alloys and front fog lights aint it?

Your registration documents should say so as well under vehicle model :o

V5 just says BMW 525 :-) I've never seen SE on the back of a BMW anyway. But it HAS got alloys and front fogs

SE is only in the U.K. Special Edition.
I think it was a nice and successful BMW ad/plot to come up with the SE.
Basically it is just a combination of extras/options.
And cheaper to produce, if all is same in the SE verson.

That makes a lot of sense. Mine was produced for the South African market. Maybe thats why its got air con and a pull down shade for the back window -can't say I need to use either very often :-) Wont be calling it an SE but I'm more than happy with the spec!

I know cos of the original dealers's address in the owners manual. If you want to know about yours, go on realoem.com and quote your chassis number. It tells you what market it was made for. My local BMW garage also confirms it when I order parts

I have a 535i, and a 535iSE...
The differences? Well the SE has a multichanger in the boot (my non-SE never had a stereo), the SE has air-con (doesn't work) and leather (now in the non-SE!)...
The SE has the M-style boot spoiler... aaaaaaand thats about it!
Both have foglights, even the poverty-spec 518i's oner here have foglights - never seen one without!
Otherwise they're both the same (aside from the fact the non-SE doesn't have the deadlocking/electronic style locks as it's a really early model)

Sounds like with just a little more equipment they'd be nearly as well-spec'd as a base-model E34 in the U.S.A. Must be why ours were cheaper; standardization of the high-level of basic equipment.
