Hey everyone,

Just bought my new car, a 95 525i. Here in Victoria (Australia), we have an option to get Euro-Style plates, either personalised or random.

I like the look of our normal custom plates, in navy blue (which will suit the car), but I still want to see what the Euro Plates look like on the E34. I can get a random Euro for the same price as a custom navy blue slimline plate ($395). The custom Euro costs $695 so isn't really worth it to me.

Thanks a lot in advance;

Aden

I have been wanting to get Euro plates for some time on my E34, just saving the pennies to do so. I already have my frames, bought these off a guy in Netherlands through eBay...

This is a link to them, but they include plates as well (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YOUR-NAME-on-German-EURO-license-plate-BMW-Munich-frame_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33640QQihZ002QQit emZ120086756769QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW). I just emailed the guy asking how much for just 2 BMW Munchen frames -- can't remember how much I paid, but got them in the post here in Melbourne a couple of weeks later. They are now waiting for euro plates and to be mounted.

Here's mine the day I bought it. Removed the euro plate last week - not my thing.

$700 AUS for a pair of plates ? Am I missing something here ? Why on earth are they anywhere near that price ?

Because Vicroads (the state's road authority) thought it would be cool to market these euro plates for the Porsche and BMW owners that it sees as "prestige", so it figured that it could sell them at "prestige" prices.

Kind of like this:
1) Make euro plates
2) ...
3) Profit!

I still don't think it's justified, so I'm waiting until I win the lottery or something before I order mine. With potentially so much money in the bank, $700 wouldn't look so bad. But that's not the case now.

By the way, most other states in Australia sell them for about $100-$200. NSW has an annual fee, while I believe other states that are offering euro plates aren't. Goes to show the crooks that VicRoads truly are.

Some jackass fat SUV cop gave me a ticket for mine, so I took it off.
Besides, unless you buy the specific front bumper part that fits the euro plate, it doesn't fit on correctly anyways, the edges stick out and don't hug the body nicely, it's kinda lame.

If I were you and NEEDED a euro plate, I'd put one on w the proper bumper section, then place the US one on top of it, but do it to the rear as well.

Don't have photo handy but front plate fitted on nicely - just bent it a little to conform to curved section on bumper bar.

Thanks, I thought it looked nice, but I tried bending it and it would bend back after a few weeks or so, maybe I should've tried harder... :D

Don't worry though, I've got a plan for the next E34.

Yeah there you go.

Hmm was that phoroshop with your high beams being dark? I thought you only photoshopped your wheels in one of your old pictures...
Those dark high beams looked pretty rad.

This is a really old pic, the day I got my 58's on. I did put smoked Lamin-x on the highs once.

The pic youre thinking of was when I had my smoked (lamin-x) highs, fogs, and turns in. Then I photoshopped my wheels. I have yellows on now (just highs), but I'm not sure I like it.

I loved the smoked because of the dark grey color of your car, it just seemed ro fit amazingly well.
