Heater question

Ok, I just bought my 90 535i about 2 months ago. 1 of those months was spent in a mechanics garage fixing a heatercore and headgasket.......

But it runs well for now.....

So my question is about the heater motor. Even before the car was taken in, Inoticed something strange. I could use settings 1-3 on the dial, then it would turn them off. From there i would have to kick it up to 4 to keep the air moving. Everyday it is like this. Setting 1-3 work for a bit, then shut off. Is there a sensor that may be faulty?

Sounds like either the switch for the blower motor is playing up or maybe the resistor (also know as a "sword" as on early models the resistor looks like a sword, apparently). Try doing a search on sword and you'll probably find out loads. Also look at bmwe34.net which has loads of info.

I looked up the "sword", and found some good info. I keep seeing that it is AC related, is this true?
